Forever And A Day

Song of Simeon

Copyright 2006.

Simeon was a man who had been promised by God that he would not taste of death, until he had seen the Messiah.

This unique promise was a long time in coming, Simeon was given the valuable lesson of patience.
It also was a promise that meant that Simeon would soon die after seeing Jesus.

Simeon had a beautiful passage to tell the world concerning this child and also His mother.

If you wonder what is wrong with my voice in this song, I am trying to dramatize the old man going through the transforming power of the possession of the Spirit, to prophesy concerning this Savior, and then later, after he has died, to have the new strength enter him as he is carried to Heaven.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
The Spirit of God has compelled me to go
Up to the Temple again.
Could this be the day that i see the Messiah
Who will save my people from sin?
My neighbors all laugh at me
'There goes the Dreamer,
Gotten too old, and he's losing his mind!'
Could they but know that I'm meeting the One
Who is offering Hope to All of Mankind?

Suddenly STOP!
At the top of stairs
There He is! There He is! Oh, the Glorious One!
Ancient Hands, weak and tired, are suddenly strengthened
To pick up the God who Created the sun!!

Chorus:
I can see throiugh the veil of His flesh to His glory!
Oh the beauty and Majesty, Power and Grace!
I have waited a lifetime, could stand here forever,
Just gazing with love in my Savior's face!
Oh Praise God! Oh Praise God!
He has sent us Salvation!
Oh, mine own eyes have seen it!
My lips shall declare
A light to the Gentiles!
The Glory of Israel!
The Gift of Salvation that You have prepared!

Verse 2:
The father and mother are gazing with wonder
At what I had spoken of Him
So I hand the child back
Raise my hands up and bless them
And speak to the woman again.
'Behold, this child will be spoken against
And for many of us, for the rising and fall
For the Lord sees the hearts of all of Mankind
And knows who will answer Salvation's Call!'

Suddenly STOP!
For my time is upon me
My children assist me in getting back home
Ancient legs, full of years, are suddenly weakened
Now that the Hope of the world has been shown!

Verse 3:
Do not weep for me children, for this is the day
I have waited so long just to see
Come close to the bed, for my hands long to bless you
Before I go beyond the sea!
Oh, I;ve had a good life
Full of laughter and joy
Do not weep for me now, for I'm longing for Home!
For the bitter taste of this death, it is passing
And cannot compare
to the Life yet to come!

Suddenly STOP!
For I see here two angels
'Come Simeon, Grab Hold, for it's time to go!'
Ancient eyes, now darkened, are suddenly opened
To see a far city, Shining like Gold!!

Chorus:

Do not weep for me children, for this is the day
I have waited so long just to see
